Salmon is an excellent source of protein and contains all the essential amino acids. It’s rich in minerals, vitamins A, D, B6 and B12 and also contains vitamin E, a powerful antioxidant, which may assist in lowering the risk of heart disease. It’s also a great source of omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA and other natural fish oils.
It’s also rich in long-chain omega-3 fatty acids, which have been shown to reduce inflammation, lower blood pressure and decrease risk factors for disease. 100 grams of salmon provide 11–18% of the recommended daily intake of potassium, which helps control blood pressure and prevent excess fluid retention.
Astaxanthin is an antioxidant found in salmon that may benefit heart, brain, nervous system and skin health.
