Move over Taco Tuesday, make way for tuna Nachos Tuesday! Traditionally, nachos are made with beef mince which can mean more saturated fat. This type of fat does not support healthy cholesterol. The good news is this recipe removes this negative health benefit by substituting with Safcol tuna. This protein source adds healthy polyunsaturated fat called omega 3 fats which improves your blood cholesterol levels by promoting more ‘good’ HDL cholesterol and reducing the ‘bad’ LDL cholesterol and triglycerides.

Did you know you can buy corn chips which are whole grain? Check out the ingredients and look for the first ingredient being corn or organic corn which means you will receive the whole benefit of this grain. Adding kidney beans adds fibre for fullness and gut health. Kidney beans are also a good source of plant-based iron which helps oxygen to reach the cells of your body. Also, magnesium needed for muscle contractions and B6 which is needed to keep your central nervous system and brain working well.

Processed tomato found in the salsa is a great way to eat tomatoes. The antioxidant lycopene found in tomatoes is better absorbed when it has been processed and cooked.  Cheese is an essential to any nachos for flavour but also has health benefits for your body. This includes calcium, B12 and choline needed for a normal functioning central nervous system and iodine and selenium for a healthy thyroid.
